What kinds of cycle parking does Manchester have?

The map has 1,077 public cycle parking locations holding 6,514+ bikes. Most locations are Sheffield stands outside shops, stations and offices, with secure, covered cycle hubs at the busiest stations and lockers at Metrolink stops and park and rides.

The stands come from Transport for Greater Manchester's survey, last updated in 2022, and many locations record no capacity, so the bike spaces figure is a floor and stands installed since then are not on this map yet. Some locations publish no capacity, so the bike spaces figure is a floor.

Shared bikes

Where you can leave a Bee Network hire bike

The stands on this map are for your own bike. A Bee Network hire bike follows its own rule.

  • Bee Network bikes: end at a hire station

A Bee Network hire bike ends its ride at a hire station, which the app shows. Ending a ride anywhere else costs a fee, and if the station is full you park the bike neatly beside the others there. Tap the bike button on the map to see the stations with their live bike counts.

  • The cycle hubs

The cycle hubs on this map are secure, covered shelters at stations and in town centres, most opened with a key fob or a membership. They are the place to leave a bike all day.

  • Your own bike: lock it to a stand

Lock the frame and a wheel to a Sheffield stand with a D-lock. Street stands are free; the lockers at Metrolink stops and park and rides are rented separately.

Find a rack before you set off

The same 1,077 locations sit under the Cyclemate map as a layer you can switch on while you plan, and the planner can end your route at one of them so you are never circling a block with a bike to lock.

  1. Tap the P on the map

One tap shows every rack in blue; tap again to hide them. Clusters open up as you zoom in, and the bike button beside it adds the city's bike share with its live counts.

  2. Tap a rack for the details

Every marker tells you the kind of parking, how many bikes it holds and whether it is covered or secure, so you know what you are riding to before you get there.

  3. Ride the SuperSafe™ way

Bike lanes and quiet streets, turn by turn, same as any Cyclemate ride.

  4. End the ride at a rack

Turn on Navigate to parking and the directions finish at a rack near your destination, then walk you the rest of the way.

In the app

Directions that end where you can lock up

Plan a ride with Navigate to parking on and the route finishes at the nearest rack to your destination, with the walk to the door as its last step.

The stands come from Transport for Greater Manchester's survey, last updated in 2022, and many locations record no capacity, so the bike spaces figure is a floor and stands installed since then are not on this map yet. A location is one place a rider can lock up, with one or more racks; bike spaces count the bikes the publisher says it holds, where it says so. The bike share stations on the map come from the operator's public feed, refreshed every few minutes, and are not counted in these figures.

Where does this cycle parking data come from?

From the open data TfGM publishes: the cycle parking survey as of September 2022, the cycle hubs as of March 2026 and the cycle lockers as of September 2022. The cycle parking survey, cycle hubs and cycle lockers are files the publisher released once, so they show the parking as it was then.
